About “Powerful Storms” in the North Pole of Jupiter

On 5th July,2022 NASA's Juno Probe came closer to JUPITER . At the moment Juno captured stunning new images of “Powerful Storms” around the Gas Giant .

The depth of those storms was around 30 miles approximately 50 kilometres in the turbulent atmosphere of Jupiter . The storms are around more than 100 miles wide . According to a statement of NASA , scientists are deeply studying these storms and trying to understand what derives their formation and gives them their striking and unique features .

According to the past observations of Jupiter , these cyclones varies in colour based on the direction of their spin , as well as their location . Storms which spins anti-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere of Jupiter and which spins clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere of Jupiter have distinctly different shapes and colors to those which spins clockwise in North and anti-clockwise in South .

About Juno Probe

Juno Probe was launched on 2011 and it reached to the Jupiter after five years, in 2016 . It took the images of those powerful storms during its 43rd close flyby at Jupiter on 5th July — NASA stated . The Juno Probe moves around the Gas Giant in a Giant Elliptical Orbit . It compleates one lap in every 43 days of Earth . At its closer point, Juno was was about 3,100 miles ( Approximately 50,000 kilometres ) away from Jupiter . This particular image was taken when Kuno was around 15,600 miles ( Approximately 25,200 kilometres ) away from the Gas Giant .

Future plan for Juno Probe

NASA planned the Juno Probe to retire in 2021 . But in 2020 they've decided to extend the mission at least to 2025 . During its remaining lifetime — the fascinating atmosphere of Jupiter will be on its focus . And Juno will also observe the mysterious moons of Jupiter — Ganymede, Europa and Io .
